Gender and Aortic Stenosis

Gender and Aortic Stenosis

$96.59

Aortic stenosis (AS) has become the most frequent valve disease and has extensively been studied in recent years. Although gender differences have gained increasing attention in cardiolgy, little is known about gender differences in presentation and surgical outcome of AS so far.In 408 consecutive pts. referred to surgery because of symptomatic AS baseline clinical and echocardiographic data as well as outcome data were analyzed with regard to potential gender differences. At presentation, female pts. were significantly older (73.7 9.3 vs. 66.5 11.5 years; p Author: Fuchs, Christina Binding Type: Paperback Number of Pages: 60 Publication Date: 2008/07/01 Language: English Dimensions: 9.00 x 6.00 x 0.12 inches

The Carotid and Supra-Aortic Trunks: Diagnosis, Angioplasty and Stenting

The Carotid and Supra-Aortic Trunks: Diagnosis, Angioplasty and Stenting

$179.99

Carotid Angioplasty and Stenting (CAS) is a new approach to treat a carotid stenosis.   This new book provides interventional cardiologists, both as beginners or fully experienced, with a reference on all aspects of angioplasty and stenting of the carotid and supra-aortic trunks. Focusing on both the entire range of angioplasty and stenting treatment options for the surgeon treating patients on the operating table, and the range of radiological techniques used for the cardiologist to diagnose carotid artery stenosis (CAS) and associated conditions, this important book describes the best indications, the different techniques, the results, and also the limitations of CAS based on randomized studies and particularly the last published data (CREST study). Suitable for both novice and experienced interventionalists, it also addresses diagnosis of a carotid stenosis and complications from CAS and how to manage them.

Pyloric Stenosis

$63.73

Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. Pyloric stenosis (or infantile hypertrophic pyloric stenosis) is a condition that causes severe vomiting in the first few months of life. There is narrowing (stenosis) of the opening from the stomach to the intestines, due to enlargement (hypertrophy) of the muscle surrounding this opening (the pylorus, meaning gate ), which spasms when the stomach empties. It is uncertain whether there is a real congenital narrowing or whether there is a functional hypertrophy of the muscle which develops in the first few weeks of life. Pyloric stenosis also occurs in adults where the cause is usually a narrowed pylorus due to scarring from chronic peptic ulceration. This is a different condition from the infantile form. Aortic Valve

Aortic Valve

$65.33

High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles The aortic valve is one of the valves of the heart. It is normally tricuspid (with three leaflets), although in 1 of the population it is found to be congenitally bicuspid (two leaflets). It lies between the left ventricle and the aorta. During ventricular systole, pressure rises in the left ventricle. When the pressure in the left ventricle rises above the pressure in the aorta, the aortic valve opens, allowing blood to exit the left ventricle into the aorta. When ventricular systole ends, pressure in the left ventricle rapidly drops. When the pressure in the left ventricle decreases, the aortic pressure forces the aortic valve to close. The closure of the aortic valve contributes the A2 component of the second heart sound (S2). Author: Surhone, Lambert M./ Tennoe, Mariam T./ Henssonow, Susan F. High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles An aortic aneurysm is a general term for any swelling of the aorta, usually representing an underlying weakness in the wall of the aorta at that location. While the stretched vessel may occasionally cause discomfort, a greater concern is the risk of rupture, which causes severe pain; massive internal hemorrhage; and, without prompt treatment, results in a quick death. Diagnosis and Treatment of Aortic Diseases

Diagnosis and Treatment of Aortic Diseases

$380.76

This book is an uptodate summary of all aspects of aortic disease, written by international experts in their fields, covering diagnostic concepts of all aortic diseases, the most modern therapeutic approaches in various aortic syndromes, the pathogenic origin and the most recent molecular and cellular findings that have revolutionized our present knowledge of aortic diseases. The reader will come to understand the aorta as a functional organ with a complex regulatory system rather than just a major arterial vessel, and will have a better understanding of the prognostic impact of various aortic syndromes, and of the most recent therapeutic concepts for chronic as well as acute aortic pathology. As a unique feature of this book, the aorta is placed in the center of systemic illnesses, such as atherosclerosis, diabetes, hypertension, infectious diseases and connective tissue disorders, storage diseases, trauma and toxic factors; this concept aims to attract the attention of both clinical specialties such as cardiology, radiology and cardiovascular surgery and adjacent areas like pathology and clinical genetics. The book portrays the aorta as an integral part of the cardiovascular system and the entire organism and features the complexity and clinical impact of all major aortic diseases. Carotid Artery Stenosis

Carotid Artery Stenosis

High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Carotid stenosis is a narrowing or constriction of the inner surface (lumen) of the carotid artery, usually caused by atherosclerosis .The carotid artery is the large artery whose pulse can be felt on both sides of the neck under the jaw. It starts from the aorta as the common carotid artery, and at the throat it forks into the internal carotid artery and the external carotid artery. The internal carotid artery supplies the brain, and the external carotid artery supplies the face. This fork is a common site for atherosclerosis, an inflammatory buildup of plaque that can narrow the common or internal artery. Learn the fundamentals of anesthesiology in the context of real patients.4 STAR DOODY’S REVIEW!”The book targets medical students, but even junior anesthesia trainees would find it very compelling….Although it has the appearance of a handbook, this book is an overview of clinical anesthesiology. It takes a simulation approach to drive home essential concepts of anesthesia management in different disease conditions. Of all the handy books out there, this is perhaps the only one that teaches anesthesia inthe context of real patients rather than merely stating facts. It would be an invaluable aid to medical students doing anesthesia clerkships or junior anesthesia trainees who need a quick review for an emergency case in the middle of the night.”—Doody’s Review ServiceCase Files: Anesthesiology contains 53 high-yield cases with open-ended questions.
