Open Heart Surgery Heart Bypass and stent how long is wait from surgical assessment?

hi we found out today that my mum is going for a surgical assessment at our local hospital in a couple of days time. after humming and haaing for a few months and lots of tests they have decided to do open heart surgery at liverpool they will do a heart bypass and put in a stent to support the artery wall and this is unstable and the op is risky because there is a possibility of a bleed if the outer wall ruptures.which could cause a clot which could block her heart either during or after the surgery. but without it she would almost certainly die. does any know how long it usually takes from the surgical assessment to the actual op. please any advise on this would be helpful as i need to prepare myself mentally especially as my mum is now 72 years old and im really scared.one of her arteries is blocked and another they cant tell as she has a condition that they say she has had from birth where one of the arteries is twisted like a corkscrew and the valve is also twisted

Surgical assessment is often an hour or two in length and usually consists of the both the Cardiac Surgeon and then a separate meeting with an anesthesiologist on the same day.

It depends on their surgical schedule and the urgency of the case. If the surgical assessment finds they are concerned about a specific area of her health status, they may require her to have more testing or postpone the surgery.

More than likely, it will be within a couple of weeks after the assessment but it does depend greatly on the surgeon and anesthesia time.

As far as stenting goes, that is done in a catheterization lab where they guide a tubelike catheter up to the heart and expand the stent. However, some hospitals have hybrid OR’s which would allow both heart surgery and catheterization lab procedures at the same time.

The above person is wrong, if they do a catheterization lab procedure they do give local anesthetic even if they are put fully asleep as it aids in insertion of catheters. Also, sometimes anesthesia is required for stenting depending on the interventional cardiologist’s opinion. But, if your mom is having heart surgery and stenting in the cath lab at the same time, she will definitely be put asleep obviously.
