Sternum Pain After Open Heart Surgery
Should I go see a doctor?
I am 23 yrs old and had an Open Heart Surgery 2 years ago. I had a congenital heart defect (hole in the heart). They put a metal around my sternum because they had to break it to be able to get into my heart. I saw it on my x-rays and my doctors also explained it to me.
I felt fine until recently… I feel a sharp pain as if something is poking me from the inside. I also feel pain when I sneeze. When I am on my back I have to move slowly to reposition myself or else It will hurt. I don’t know what it is. I am thinking it could be the metal around my sternum. I told my husband about it and told me that since I don’t do a lot of exercise my muscles there are all atrophied.
Well, I don’t really do major exercise except from walking everyday. Never had this feeling til after my surgery. I am just worried because It hurts badly when I on a bad position.
Any thing that involves your heart I would go see a doctor,or go to the ER.

Open Heart Surgery and Its Consequences for WellBeing $111.53 Both historically and today, the aim of open heart surgery is the prolongation of life as well as the relief of symptoms. However, increased ability to prolong life has given rise to a variety of questions about quality of life including not only physical but also psychological and social dimensions. Adjustment to open heart surgery is complex, and multidimensional explanations are required in order to understand it. There are few descriptions about the consequences of open heart surgery that view the patient and his/her relatives as a unit and thus an indivisible part of each others lifeworld. Strabismus Surgery $68.51 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Strabismus surgery is surgery on the extraocular muscles to correct the misalignment of the eyes. With approximately 1.2 million procedures each year, extraocular muscle surgery is the third most common eye surgery in the United States. Strabismus surgery is a one day procedure. The patient only spends few hours in the hospital with minimal preoperative preparation. The average duration of the surgery is variable according to the number of muscles operated. On average, every muscle operated takes 1015 minutes. In case of reoperations it may take longer. After surgery, pain is not significant. The patient should expect some soreness and redness, however pain killers are rarely needed. Again, in cases of reoperations, more pain is expected. Resection of the muscles is more painful in the post operative period than recession. It also leaves redness that lasts longer and may cause some vomiting in the early post operative period. King Of Hearts: The True Story Of The Maverick Who Pioneered Open Heart Surgery $11.09 Few of the great stories of medicine are as palpably dramatic as the invention of open-heart surgery, yet, until now, no journalist has ever brought all of the thrilling specifics of this triumph to life. This is the story of the surgeon many call the father of open-heart surgery, Dr. C. Walton Lillehei, who, along with colleagues at University Hospital in Minneapolis and a small band of pioneers elsewhere, accomplished what many experts considered to be an impossible feat: He opened the heart, repaired fatal defects, and made the miraculous routine. Acclaimed author G. Wayne Miller draws on archival research and exclusive interviews with Lillehei and legendary pioneers such as Michael DeBakey and Christiaan Barnard, taking readers into the lives of these doctors and their patients as they progress toward their landmark achievement. In the tradition of works by Richard Rhodes and Tracy Kidder, King of Hearts tells the story of an important and gripping piece of forgotten science history. From the Hardcover edition. |
