What is a heart stroke, how do you treat Heart Disease and how to decrease cholesterol level – Atorvastatin Lipitor

Heart stroke, a kind of heart disease, is a stroke resulting in sudden death of brain cells in a localized area due to inadequate blood flow. Heart disease can be treated or controlled effectively with medications, including other preventive measures and exercises. High cholesterol level can be decreased with antihyperlipidemic or statin medications like atorvastatin. It is the major cause of heart disease, if left untreated excess of bad cholesterol can clog the blood vessels, leading to chest pain (angina), blood clots, and heart attacks. This medicine is indicated to treat various heart diseases and is used to lower the levels of both cholesterol and triglycerides in the plasma. It is used along with diet, exercise, and weight loss program to reduce the risk of Heart Attack and stroke and to decrease chances of Heart Surgery in patients with heart disease or who are at risk of developing heart disease. It also prevents heart attacks and strokes in patients with type 2 diabetes with a number of risk factors for Coronary artery disease.

Heart disease or Cardiovascular Disease is the class of diseases that involve the heart or blood vessels (arteries and veins). A stroke is the rapidly developing loss of brain function(s) due to disturbance in the blood supply to the brain. It is classified into two major categories, ischemic and hemorrhagic. Ischemic strokes are those that are caused by interruption of the blood supply, while hemorrhagic strokes are the ones which result from rupture of a blood vessel or an abnormal vascular structure.

Heart failure (HF) is generally defined as inability of the heart to supply sufficient blood flow to meet the body’s needs. It basically means that the heart muscles have become weak and do not function as normal. It can affect the entire heart or only the right or left side of heart. Women generally develop heart failure after menopause. Common causes of heart failure include myocardial infarction (heart attacks) and other forms of Ischemic Heart Disease like hypertension, valvular heart disease, and cardiomyopathy. Heart failure can cause a number of symptoms including shortness of breath, coughing, chronic venous congestion, ankle swelling, and exercise intolerance. There are several terms which are closely related to heart failure. Treatment focuses on improving the symptoms and preventing the progression of the disease.

Coronary disease, an important cause of premature death, refers to the failure of coronary circulation to supply adequate circulation to Cardiac muscle and surrounding tissue. This disease has no clear etiology, while it has many risk factors including smoking, radiotherapy to the chest, hypertension, diabetes, and hyperlipidemia. Cardiomyopathy, also called Heart Muscle disease, is the deterioration of the function of the myocardium (i.e., the actual heart muscle) for any reason. People with cardiomyopathy are often at risk of Arrhythmia or sudden cardiac death or both. Cardiomyopathies can be categorized as extrinsic or intrinsic. Treatment depends on the type of cardiomyopathy and some patients may eventually require a heart transplant.

Hypertensive heart disease is any of a number of complications of arterial hypertension that affects the heart. Valvular heart disease is any disease process involving one or more of the Valves Of The Heart (the aortic and mitral valves on the left and the pulmonaryand tricuspid valves on the right). Treatment may be with medication but often involves valve repair or replacement depending on the severity.

A person with heart disease usually needs several medications. Taking correct medicines is critically important and one should take it exactly as prescribed by their health care provider.

The Encyclopedia of the Heart and Heart Disease

The Encyclopedia of the Heart and Heart Disease

$82.88

Each year, more than half a million people die from heart disease. Not only is it the leading cause of death in the United States, it is also a major cause of disability. The American Heart Association estimates that more than 80 million people in the United States suffer from some form of cardiovascular disease, such as angina, heart attack, high blood pressure, or stroke. The Encyclopedia of the Heart and Heart Disease, Second Edition examines the function of the heart and the cardiovascular system and the major diseases and disorders that impact their health. This revised book discusses how to recognize the signs and symptoms of heart disease and how heart disease is diagnosed and treated. The causes and factors that contribute to heart disease are explained as well as preventive measures and steps to live a heart-healthy lifestyle. Appendixes include a directory of organizations and resources and diagrams of the heart and cardiovascular system.

Antithrombotic Drug Therapy in Cardiovascular Disease

Antithrombotic Drug Therapy in Cardiovascular Disease

Substantial morbidity and mortality remains associated with thrombotic events has stimulated the rapid expansion of the available armamentarium to combat pathologic thrombosis. Pathologic thrombosis plays an essential role in the pathogenesis of acute coronary syndromes (ACS), ischemic complications of percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), venous thromboembolic disease, and embolic complications of arrhythmias and various cardiomyopathies. Written by experts in the field, Antithrombotic Drug Therapy in Cardiovascular Disease carefully examines individual and various combinations of the available antithrombotic regimens including fibrinolytic agents, antiplatelet therapies (aspirin, thieneopyridines, glycoprotein IIb/IIIa inhibitors), and anticoagulant therapies (unfractionated heparin, low-molecular-weight heparins, direct thrombin inhibitors, and synthetic factor X inhibitors), non-ST-segment elevation (NSTE) ACS and ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI). A detailed overview, Antithrombotic Drug Therapy in Cardiovascular Disease presents the evidence demonstrating the efficacy of available antithrombotic therapies in specific disease states such as atrial fibrillation, cardiomyopathy, valvular heart disease, and heparin-induced thrombocytopenia (HIT).

EPISTAXIS. Synonyms. Rhinorrhagia. Nose bleed. Definition. Epistaxis signifies a bleeding or hemorrhage from the nose. Etiology. Epistaxis is merely a symptom and may be due to a variety of causes. It may be traumatic, the result of operations within the nostrils, or direct force with or without fracture of the framework of the nose. It is also caused by fracture of the base of the skull, and may be the result of cerebral jar or concussion without direct violence to the nose. Spurs or ridges of the septum, or deviation of the septum when in contact, or when strongly pressing on the opposite wall, may cause abrasion of the mucous membrane with resulting bleeding. Picking or removing scabs or hardened mucus from the septum is also a frequent cause. Nasal bleeding is of frequent occurrence in passing from a dense to a rarefied atmosphere, as witnessed in ascending high altitudes. In women epistaxis may take the form of a vicarious menstruation, and may recur with the same periodicity as the normal discharge; or it may result from repelled skin eruptions and from astringent applications to bleeding piles. In many of the acute diseases, as diphtheria, scarlet fever, typhoid fever, smallpox and pneumonia, epis- taxis is often an early symptom. When occuring in the latter stages of these diseases it indicates a serious condition. Epistaxis may be symptomatic of valvular disease, or over-action of the heart; of congestion and other diseases of the liver and kidneys, and of degeneration ofthe coats of the blood vessels, especially in advanced life. Malignant disease of the nose, and, occasionally, syphilitic rhinitis are accompanied by epistaxis. From personal observation, I believe, uncomplicated mucous polypi rarely cause epistaxis.
