2011 ICD 9 Codes Online: Radiology Coding to Witness 4 Key Aditions
The 2011 ICD-9 codes will go into effect on October 1 this year. Read on to know more about these codes.
If you are a radiology coder, the next round of ICD-9 codes could hold important changes for you. Read on for a rundown on the new codes most relevant to radiologists, including a new option for retained magnetic metal fragments.
More specific ectasia codes
The proposed changes to ICD-9 2011 codes add four specific codes to aortic ectasia. These codes are among the most important changes for radiology coders as you may see that term in the findings of your radiologist. The wished-for 2011 codes are specific to aortic ectasia and differ based on anatomic site.
Keep a watch on Claudication’ in Stenosis Report
The proposed addition of 724.03 is another one of the key changes. The code refers to lumbar spinal stenosis, which happens to be a narrowing of the spinal canal.
Match new uterine codes to clinical class
If you code gynecological imaging, do not miss the proposed new codes for uterine abnormalities. So-called müllerian duct abnormalities can lead to infertility; however surgical correction is sometimes possible. Radiological imaging, normally MRI, confirms the diagnosis; as such the radiologist should document the specific type of abnormality in his findings. The ICD-9 2011 proposal increases the 752.3 range.
Review just-in retained fragment proposals
Over one-third of the proposed ‘V’ codes, which portray supplementary classification of factors influencing health status and contact with health services. Some of the codes describe retained fragments, which the radiologist may note in his findings.

Gender and Aortic Stenosis $96.59 Aortic stenosis (AS) has become the most frequent valve disease and has extensively been studied in recent years. Although gender differences have gained increasing attention in cardiolgy, little is known about gender differences in presentation and surgical outcome of AS so far.In 408 consecutive pts. referred to surgery because of symptomatic AS baseline clinical and echocardiographic data as well as outcome data were analyzed with regard to potential gender differences. At presentation, female pts. were significantly older (73.7 9.3 vs. 66.5 11.5 years; p Author: Fuchs, Christina Binding Type: Paperback Number of Pages: 60 Publication Date: 2008/07/01 Language: English Dimensions: 9.00 x 6.00 x 0.12 inches |

The Carotid and Supra-Aortic Trunks: Diagnosis, Angioplasty and Stenting $179.99 Carotid Angioplasty and Stenting (CAS) is a new approach to treat a carotid stenosis.   This new book provides interventional cardiologists, both as beginners or fully experienced, with a reference on all aspects of angioplasty and stenting of the carotid and supra-aortic trunks. Focusing on both the entire range of angioplasty and stenting treatment options for the surgeon treating patients on the operating table, and the range of radiological techniques used for the cardiologist to diagnose carotid artery stenosis (CAS) and associated conditions, this important book describes the best indications, the different techniques, the results, and also the limitations of CAS based on randomized studies and particularly the last published data (CREST study). Suitable for both novice and experienced interventionalists, it also addresses diagnosis of a carotid stenosis and complications from CAS and how to manage them. |

Pyloric Stenosis $63.73 Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. Pyloric stenosis (or infantile hypertrophic pyloric stenosis) is a condition that causes severe vomiting in the first few months of life. There is narrowing (stenosis) of the opening from the stomach to the intestines, due to enlargement (hypertrophy) of the muscle surrounding this opening (the pylorus, meaning gate ), which spasms when the stomach empties. It is uncertain whether there is a real congenital narrowing or whether there is a functional hypertrophy of the muscle which develops in the first few weeks of life. Pyloric stenosis also occurs in adults where the cause is usually a narrowed pylorus due to scarring from chronic peptic ulceration. This is a different condition from the infantile form. Aortic Valve $65.33 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles The aortic valve is one of the valves of the heart. It is normally tricuspid (with three leaflets), although in 1 of the population it is found to be congenitally bicuspid (two leaflets). It lies between the left ventricle and the aorta. During ventricular systole, pressure rises in the left ventricle. When the pressure in the left ventricle rises above the pressure in the aorta, the aortic valve opens, allowing blood to exit the left ventricle into the aorta. When ventricular systole ends, pressure in the left ventricle rapidly drops. When the pressure in the left ventricle decreases, the aortic pressure forces the aortic valve to close. The closure of the aortic valve contributes the A2 component of the second heart sound (S2). Author: Surhone, Lambert M./ Tennoe, Mariam T./ Henssonow, Susan F. Aortic Aneurysm $63.73 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles An aortic aneurysm is a general term for any swelling of the aorta, usually representing an underlying weakness in the wall of the aorta at that location. While the stretched vessel may occasionally cause discomfort, a greater concern is the risk of rupture, which causes severe pain; massive internal hemorrhage; and, without prompt treatment, results in a quick death. Diagnosis and Treatment of Aortic Diseases $380.76 This book is an uptodate summary of all aspects of aortic disease, written by international experts in their fields, covering diagnostic concepts of all aortic diseases, the most modern therapeutic approaches in various aortic syndromes, the pathogenic origin and the most recent molecular and cellular findings that have revolutionized our present knowledge of aortic diseases. The reader will come to understand the aorta as a functional organ with a complex regulatory system rather than just a major arterial vessel, and will have a better understanding of the prognostic impact of various aortic syndromes, and of the most recent therapeutic concepts for chronic as well as acute aortic pathology. As a unique feature of this book, the aorta is placed in the center of systemic illnesses, such as atherosclerosis, diabetes, hypertension, infectious diseases and connective tissue disorders, storage diseases, trauma and toxic factors; this concept aims to attract the attention of both clinical specialties such as cardiology, radiology and cardiovascular surgery and adjacent areas like pathology and clinical genetics. The book portrays the aorta as an integral part of the cardiovascular system and the entire organism and features the complexity and clinical impact of all major aortic diseases. The Nuts and Bolts of ICD Therapy $47.99 The number of ICD patients is increasing sharply, yet the number of electrophysiologists-physicians who specialize in the electrical system of the heart-is not increasing as dramatically. The result of this influx is that more and more ICD patients are being treated by physicians and staff with little or no ICD training. There are many fine books on device-based therapy for the heart, but most are written for the experts. Whether you read it from cover-to-cover or use it for reference (or both), it is written primarily with you in mind – for people who are actually involved in the clinical care of these patients. The Nuts and Bolts of ICD Therapy is specifically written for non-cardiologists. This book is written in a lively intelligent and easy to navigate style. It emphasizes real-life clinical practice and practical tips, including illustrations from actual clinical settings. Each chapter concludes with a checklist of key points from each subject ("Nuts and Bolts"). |

Carotid Artery Stenosis $70.1 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Carotid stenosis is a narrowing or constriction of the inner surface (lumen) of the carotid artery, usually caused by atherosclerosis .The carotid artery is the large artery whose pulse can be felt on both sides of the neck under the jaw. It starts from the aorta as the common carotid artery, and at the throat it forks into the internal carotid artery and the external carotid artery. The internal carotid artery supplies the brain, and the external carotid artery supplies the face. This fork is a common site for atherosclerosis, an inflammatory buildup of plaque that can narrow the common or internal artery.
